Francoise Gilot is accredited with having a hand in the revival
of printmaking both in America and Europe beginning in the 1960s.
Her career is one that is defined both by her artistic talent and
her academic achievment. At the age of twenty-one she left the University
of Paris to study art at the Academie Julian. Following this she
earned a degree in Philosophy from the Sorbonne and a degree in
English from Cambridge. During her final period of study, Gilot
began to explore the medium of printmaking. She developed a vocabulary
in the medium that attracted the attention of Daniel-Henri Kahnweiler,
a major art dealer who exhibited her work in his Parisian gallery
in 1952. Since then, Francoise Gilot has been exhibiting her
graphic works and paintings in known galleries throughout the world.
Along with authoring three books, "Life With Picasso", "The Painter
and the Mask"; and, "Mattise and Picasso: A Friendship in Art",
Gilot has illustrated four books of her poems. Recently acquired
by Georgetown Frame Shoppe, is the original hand signed Francoise
