Although best known for his paintings and sculptures, Joan Miro was
a prolific printmaker. It was an interest that developed later in his
life, and resulted in the creation of a large number of vibrant and original
illustrated books, portfolios, suites and individual works. Recognizing
the camaraderie and artistic discovery that occurred when working with
other artisans and masters, Joan Miro was initially attracted to printmaking
as a respite from the solitary labors of painting. From here, his interest
in the medium developed into a passion that gave birth to a great number
works during the 1960's to the early eighties when he died. When asked
about printmaking, Joan Miro is recorded as saying, "…a painting is a
unique example for a single collector. But if I pull seventy-five examples,
I increase by seventy-five times the number of people who can own a work
of mine. I increase the reach of my message seventy-five times." Pictured
above is a beautiful original lithograph from Miro's Album 21 portfolio.
This work was published by Maeght Editeur in 1978, in an edition of 75.
This particular piece is referenced by Mourlot, #1128. This lithograph
is signed in pencil in the lower right hand corner and measures 26" x
26" unframed. We are currently offering this wonderful original work of

Marc Chagall's 1956 portfolio of original lithographs, Illustrations
for the Bible, was inspired by the texts of all twelve books of the
Bible. Specifically, Chagall chose to focus on the complex relationship
between God and Man present throughout the text. Initially begun in 1931,
the series was only finally completed and published in 1956 due to the
death of Chagall's publisher, Ambroise Vollard, and WWII. Pictured here
is an original color lithograph published by Verve as part of an additional
edition of Illustrations for the Bible also published in 1956.
In this edition, included are 17 original color lithographs based on 17
black and white engravings found in the first edition. This lovely work,
titled David and Bathsheeba, measures 14" x 10" unframed, and is
referenced in Mourlot, #132. Georgetown Frame Shoppe not only this lithograph,

Picasso began making linocuts while working in the south of France on
the famous Vallauris Chapel. Originally he intended to employ the technique
for the creation of posters for exhibitions at Vallauris, but was inspired
to develop his interest further. Picasso worked closely with printer Hidalgo
Arnera creating hundreds of prints. Pictured above is Picasso's Toros
en Vallauris. This original Picasso linocut is hand signed in the
bottom left hand corner and numbered 78/185, and published in 1960, by
Arnera, Vallauris. This linocut measures 29-1/2" x 24-3/4" unframed. The
value of this work, $14,000.00, includes museum quality archival framing.

Marc Chagall's The Odyssea is a two volume work of illustrations
accompanied by the text of the story. The first volume was completed on
the 5th of December, 1974. The second on the 20th of June, 1975. Marc
Chagall's lithographs for this series were run off the presses of the
Mourlot workshop in Paris. In this brilliant work, Marc Chagall successfully
captures the atmosphere and drama of this epic through his depictions
of landscape, water, Antic Temples, intense sunlight, and through his
fantastic figures of the Minotaur, Gilgamesh, and Angels. Pictured above
is Ares and Aphrodite. This work measures 12-3/4" x 16-3/4" unframed.
We are currently selling it for only $4,500. Please feel free to contact
our gallery for the value of this lithograph, and any others from this
series which we have available for your viewing on our website.
