La Maternite was created after the work of Pablo Picasso and printed by Mourlot in 1963. With its simple curvaceous lines and bold splashes of color, this beautiful lithograph showcases Picasso’s talent for reductionism. Representations of the Virgin Mary and her endless, unbounded love for her son occupy an important place in traditional Spanish art. Despite the changing times of the 20th century, Picasso continued to explore the theme of mother and child in timeless and contemporary ways. The woman in La Maternite has the appearance of an ancient statue that has suddenly come to life. She is solid and strong, but gentle and caring. The floral crown accentuates her connection to the earth. La Maternite measures approximately 34” by 25” unframed and 46” by 37” framed. This lithograph is dated in the plate and numbered in pencil from an edition of 200. It is hand signed in pencil by Pablo Picasso in the lower right corner. $10,500 framed.
In this luminous lithograph Le Cirque (the frontispiece for the portfolio of the same title), Marc Chagall explores the magic world under the Big Top.
Chagall was fascinated by the circus: the enchanting costumes, colors, and performances of this secret world captivated him and became a lifetime source of inspiration. In Le Cirque, Chagall explains his affinity for Big Top performers: “With them I travel on toward other horizons. Their colors and their painted masks draw me toward other, strange, psychic forms which I long to paint. Circus! A magical word, a centuries old entertainment parading before us, in which a tear, a smile, a gesture of arm or leg takes on the quality of great art.” Le Cirque was printed by Mourlot, Paris in an edition of 250 on Arches wove paper . It was published by Teriade Editeur, Paris in 1967. It measures approximately 17" by 13" unframed. SOLD
In this original lithograph, Maternite (Motherhood), Pierre-Auguste Renoir captures the universal bond between mother and child, and this particular, private moment between Gabrielle Renard and Jean Renoir. Like much of Renoir's work, Maternite depicts a gentle, predictable world. Renoir explained, "For me a picture has to be something pleasant, delightful and pretty -- yes, pretty. There are enough unpleasant things in the world without us producing more." Maternite was printed in it's second state by Auguste Clot in an edition of 200. It was published by Ambroise Vollard in 1912. It measures approximately 21" by 24" unframed and 36" x 33" framed. SOLD

This lovely original lithograph, Ceramique, depicts one of Picasso's best-loved ceramic pieces, Polychrome Bird. This print stunningly captures the vivid colors and earthen textures of the painted pottery. Picasso began working with pottery in 1947 after a stall for the Madoura Pottery studio at the annual Vallauris potters exhibition in peeked his interest. He treated the clay like canvas and enjoyed exploring mythological and classical themes while experimenting with art in two and three dimensional forms. Ceramique was printed by Mourlot in 1959. It measures approximately 20” by 18” unframed and 32” by 30” framed. The lithograph is hand signed in crayon by Pablo Picasso in the lower right corner. SOLD
