Throughout his life, Marc Chagall created a number of portfolios and
illustrated books depicting religious allegories and images. A number
of these were devoted specifically to portraying scenes from the Bible.
Following the publication of his and Antoine Teriade's 1956 collaborative
portfolio of etchings illustrating the Bible, Chagall decided to collaborate
with Teriade on another set of twenty-four lithographic illustrations
based on their previous portfolio. This brilliant series of lithographs
illuminated aspects of the earlier Bible series that both artists felt needed
elaboration. This series, titled "Drawings for the Bible," was
finished and published by Verve in 1960. These lithographs, as pictured
above, combine Chagall's extraordinary drawing skills and ability to create
a sense of drama through color and composition, with Teriade's exemplary
lithographic technique and skill. Georgetown Frame Shoppe is currently
selling "Paradise" (pictured above) for the excellent price
of $1,500.00 This work measures 14-3/8" x 10-1/4". All other
twenty-three lithographs are available for sale and viewing on our website.
"Constellations", a suite of twenty-two Pochoirs,
was created in 1959 after Miro fled to France following the fall of
the Spanish Republic. This particular piece, "Le reveil au petite jour", measures 14" x 17", and is one of
Miro's 22 Pochoirs from the Constellations series, depicting fantastic figures and shapes within a "celestial space". Andre Breton, the French poet and friend of Joan Miro, composed
poems to illustrate, or rather, shed light on the context in which this body of work was created.
Georgetown Frame Shoppe has a great selection
of original Joan Miro lithographs. We carry portfolios such as
"Ubu Roi", illustrations based on the text of Alfred Jarry, published
by Teriade in 1966 and, "Album 21", a portfolio of twenty-one
color lithographs made in 1978 and published by Maeght Editeur.
Georgetown Frame Shoppe has been lucky enough to have acquired
this original Andy Warhol portrait of Edward Kennedy. This work was created
in 1980, and published on Lenox Museum Board by Kennedy for the President
Commitee. This sizable screenprint measures 40" x
32," and is uniquely embellished with ruby diamond dust highlighting
areas of Kennedy's face and torso. This piece is numbered 207 out of an edition
of 300. . We invite all to view Warhol's single works (such as this,) as
well as the large selection of portfolios and suites we have for sale,
such as the "Sunday B. Morning" series, the "Mick Jagger" portraits, and
the "Myths" portfolio.

Picasso began making linocuts while working in the south of France on
the famous Vallauris Chapel. Originally he intended to employ the technique
for the creation of posters for exhibitions at Vallauris, but was inspired
to develop his interest further. Picasso worked closely with printer Hidalgo
Arnera creating hundreds of prints. Pictured above is one of these lovely
linocuts created in 1956. This piece
measures 39-3/8" x 26", and is numbered one out of an edition
of thirty unsigned. Twenty-one were reserved for the artist and another
200 were signed by Picasso.

Marc Chagall's "The Odyssea" is a two volume work of illustrations
accompanied by the text of the story. The first volume was completed on
the 5th of December, 1974. The second on the 20th of June, 1975. Chagall's
lithographs for this series were run off the presses of the Mourlot workshop
in Paris. In this brilliant work, Chagall sucessfully captures the atmosphere
and drama of this epic through his depictions of landscape, water,
Antic Temples, intense sunlight, and through his fantastic figures of the
Minotaur, Gilgamesh, and Angels. Pictured above is "Ulysses and Penelope."
This lovely work measures 12-3/4" x 16-3/4." Please feel free to contact our gallery for the value of
this lithograph, and any other from this series which we have available for viewing
on our website.
