Georgetown Frame Shoppe, Washington D.C's premiere art gallery,
buys and sells original Modern and Contemporary Fine Art Prints,
Pop Art Lithographic and Serigraphic Prints, Etchings and Lithographs
from such notable Impressionist and Expressionist painters as Pierre Auguste Renoir, Marc Chagall
and Mary Cassatt and Linocuts and Dry-point Etchings by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Bernard Buffet.
This list encompasses only a few of the many internationally renowned
artists whose work we collect.
Georgetown Frame Shoppe has been in business in the local Washington
D.C. area since 1989. Our business has an excellent reputation as
an honest art dealership. With our extensive collection of catalogue
raisonne books covering the majority of artwork we buy and sell, we have
a thorough understanding of the authenticity of all the artwork we buy and sell. An advantage of having our gallery located in Georgetown,
Washington D.C., is that we are able to sell original art for less
than galleries in New York and Los Angeles.
Marc Chagall is one artist whose work we have consistently collected
for the past six years. As a result we have a great collection of original
Marc Chagall Lithographs, Etchings and Aquatints. "The Odyssea",
a two-volume work, is our most recent acquisition. The first volume
was completed on the 5th of December 1974 and the second
on the 20th of June 1975. "The Odyssea", created in tribute to
Homers epic poem, illustrates precisely the main stages of the text.
Marc Chagall captures the atmosphere of the epic through his depictions
of the landscape characterized by the sea and Antic Temples, intense
sunlight and in the fantastic figures of the Minotaur, Gilgamesh
and angels.
Some of the lithographic images printed for "The Odyssee" required
as many as 20 color layers. The first two hundred and fifty copies
were printed on Arches wove paper and numbered 1-250. Twenty copies
numbered in Roman Numerals were reserved for the artist and his
collaborators. Both volumes of "The Odyssee" were published
by Ferdinand Mourlot in Paris.
In addition to
our collection of original Marc Chagall Lithographs and Etchings,
we have a number of Chagall Posters hand signed in pencil and crayon.
These were made by Marc Chagall to promote various exhibitions of
his Prints and Paintings. These vintage posters are extremely rare
and beautiful. Our collection covers exhibitions of his work from
the late 50's into the 80's. Please come and take a look!
These lithographs from the portfolio are not easy to obtain, especially at our fantastic prices!
Although Georgetown Frame Shoppe deals mainly in Modern and Contemporary
art prints, we've obtained a number of etchings by Francisco
Goya y Lucienetes. Our collection consists of etchings from " Los Caprichos", "The Disasters of War" and "Tauromaquia".
Los Caprichos, Francisco Goya's first series of satirical etchings,
(caprices or fantasies,) was published in 1799. This series consists
of eighty etchings. Meant to satirize the 'follies and errors' of
Spanish society, Goya attacks contemporary cultural elements like
the Spanish Inquisition, the abuses of the church and the nobility,
witchcraft, child rearing and avarice . The characters depicted
in this series seem to populate a world on the margins of reason,
where no clear boundaries distinguish reality from fantasy. "The
Disasters of War", (1810-14), Francisco Goya's second series of
etchings, was made during the bloody war against the French occupation.
"Desastres," as it's called in Spanish, depicts detailed horrifying scenes of violence and destruction
such as Goya must have witnessed during his time. "La Tauromaquia,"
(bullfight), one of Goya's greatest series of etchings, comprised
of thirty-three etchings, was based on the national pastime in Spain,
bullfighting. Because of its content, this series received very
little public criticism, and was widely praised.

As many are already aware, a large exhibition is being held at
the Phillip's Collection, in Washington D.C., of Joan
Miro and Alexander Calder paintings and Sculptures. What most
people don't know, is that these two artists produced a large number
of remarkable etchings and lithographs. Here at Georgetown Frame
Shoppe, we have an extensive collection of each of their original
works on paper. Both Calder's and Miro's lithographs and
etchings provide unique incite into their creative minds and work
in other mediums. In his lithographs, Joan Miro demonstrates a creative
freedom that rivals that found in many of his paintings. And Alexander
Calder's lithographs seem almost to be two-dimensional versions
of his sculptures. Our collection of Miro's include works from Derriere
Le Miroir, Artigas, 1956; Ubu Roi, 1966; and 10 Ans Edition, 1956.
Our collection of Alexander Calder lithographs includes the Flying
Color Series, 1974; the Sunrise Series, 1967; and a large number of
Gallery Maeght publications. Our collection of original art is extensive. We invite
you to take a look for yourself, to experience the intense creativity
of both artists.

We have a great selection of Original Pablo Picasso etchings spanning
from his early, more classically influenced lithographs, to his later
highly stylized cubist etchings and linocuts. We also have a lovely
and unique series of Greek and Roman inspired etchings by Pablo
Picasso titled Lysistrata, executed in 1934. We have a wide variety
of Picasso's lithographs, from the rare series Portrait Imaginaires,
made in 1969, to Los Toros avec Picasso executed in 1961. We sell
all our original lithographs and etchings at great competitive prices! And for those
who appreciate less expensive collectibles, we have an interesting selection
of rare vintage Pablo Picasso Posters. Most of these Posters were
made to promote various Picasso exhibitions and retrospectives.
Less expensive than original lithographs and etchings, these items
are lovely emblems of Picasso's influence around the world.
