Peter max was born in 1937 in Berlin, Germany. His Family moved a number
of times before finally settling down in the United States in 1953. Peter
Max studied Fine Arts in New York at the Art Students League, Pratt Institute,
and the School of Visual Arts. Apparently Max adopted the name "Max"
from fellow students and then aspiring artist, Max Oppenheimin. After
completing his studies, Peter Max opened a design studio and gained international
success as a designer for books, posters and product advertisements. In
an effort to spend more time on his own personal artistic career, Peter
Max closed his studio in 1964. It was following this transition that he
began to produce his own signature silk-screens and lithographs, characterized
by his use of bright colors and painterly mark making.
Peter Max's work, which he called "up art," was a part of the
psychedelic movement in graphic design during the early 1960's. His work
was extraordinarily influential and highly imitated in advertising design
throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Pablo
Picasso is considered to be one the great artists of the 20th century.
As much as he was a painter, sculptor, and ceramist, he was also a great
and prolific print maker. In his lifetime he created a miraculous body
of lithographs, etchings, linocuts and aquatints. Often, using the various
print mediums, he chose to illustrate great works of literature, and the
literature and poems of his friends. Lysistrata, Sable Mouvant and Vignt
Poemes are just a select few of the vast body of Picasso's illustrative
portfolios.

Next to Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein is considered to be one of the
greatest artists of the Pop Art movement.
Aside from producing paintings and sculptures, Roy Lichtenstein also
created a great number of prints. Lichtenstein often employed the use
of multiple mediums such as lithography, screenprinting and etching for
the creation of a single print.
His work is often characterized as ironic, humorous and witty. In response
to this commonly held opinion, he once stated "I'd rather use the
word dealing with than parody. I am sure there are certain aspects of
irony, but I get really involved in making the paintings when I am working
on them, and I think just to make parodies or to be ironic about something
in the past is much too much of a joke for that to carry your work as
a work of art."
Pictured above is Roy Lichtenstein's original hand signed Offset Lithograph,
Crak. An Offset Lithograph is described as an inked image that
has been transferred or "offset" from a plate to a rubber blanket,
and then later to the printing surface. This work is hand signed in the
bottom right hand corner, and measures 18" x 27" unframed. A
total edition of 300 lithographs were published by the Leo Castelli Gallery
in New York, between 1963-1964. Please contact our gallery for more information
