In the late twenties and early thirties Joan Miro experienced a crisis
of expression that led him to manifest on several occasions his rejection
of painting, which he considered in decline since the age of cave-dwellers.
As a result of this, he took up collage, studying the possibilities it
offered, and explored the three dimensional through the creation of objects.
Importantly, before reaching this stage, Miro had set himself the strict
discipline of analyzing forms through drawing-which he considered the
first and essential step in the materialization of a picture. And which
played a fundamental role in the development of his plastic language.
In 1929, Miro, in a style very close to drawing, produced his first lithographs
to illustrate "L'Abre des voyageurs" by Tristan Tzara, which
was published in 1930. This first joint work by Tzara and Miro was not
just the start of a fruitful collaboration but was also a step towards
other adventures. Tzara introduced Miro to Louis Marcoussis, the cubist
painter who had mastered with great skill, the techniques of drypoint,
line engraving and etching, the secrets of which he imparted to Miro.
It was as a result of this introduction that in 1933 Miro was able to
produce his first three etchings, as book illustration for Georges Hugonet's
"Enfances".
Pictured above is an original Joan Miro lithograph from his 1971 series,

Henri Matisse's images of dancers, and of human figures in general, convey
expressive form first and the particular details of anatomy only secondarily.
Matisse extended this principle into other fields; his bronze sculptures,
like his drawings and works in etching and lithography, reveal the same
expressive contours seen in his paintings. Although intellectually sophisticated,
Matisse always emphasized the importance of instinct and intuition in
the production of a work of art. He felt that an artist did not have complete
control over color and form; instead, colors, shapes, and lines would
come to dictate to the sensitive artist how they might be employed in
relation to one another. He often emphasized his joy in abandoning himself
to the play of the forces of color and design, and he explained the rhythmic,
but distorted, forms of many of his figures in terms of the working out
of a total pictorial harmony.
This lovely original Henri Matisse portrait, Heir, De Tes Doigts D'Or
Pale, is from the portfolio, Poesies Antillaises, published

Throughout his lifetime, Picasso's style developed from the Blue Period
(190104,) to the Rose Period (1905,) to the pivotal work Les Demoiselles
dAvignon (1907,) and to the subsequent evolution of Cubism - often
considered to be his most significant development. However, beyond these
stylistic accomplishments, Picasso continued to explore other modes of
representation. Through his collaboration on ballet and theatrical productions
beginning in 1916, his work was characterized by Neoclassicism and a renewed
interest in drawing and figural representation. Pictured above is a beautiful
original Picasso lithograph, Manolo Huguet, published in 1957.
This work is unique in that its stylistic origins can be traced back to
Picasso's early involvement in theater as mentioned above. Manolo Huguet
is hand signed in blue crayon, and measures 29-7/8" x 19-3/4".
Manolo Huguet was published by Mourlot, Paris. Georgetown Frame Shoppe has sold this piece.

Marc Chagall's The Odyssey is a two volume work of illustrations
accompanied by the text of the story. The first volume was completed on
the 5th of December, 1974. The second on the 20th of June, 1975. Marc
Chagall's lithographs for both volumes were run off the presses of the
Mourlot workshop in Paris. In this brilliant work, Marc Chagall successfully
captures the atmosphere and drama of this epic through his depiction's
of landscape, water, Antic Temples, intense sunlight, and through his
fantastic figures of the Minotaur, Gilgamesh, and Angels. Pictured above
is the beautiful lithograph, In Hades. This work measures 12-3/4"
x 16-3/4" unframed. We are currently selling this original lithograph
for only $4,500 framed. If you are interested in other lithographs from The
Odyssey illustrations, Georgetown Frame Shoppe has both volumes available
for viewing on our website.

her cousins sun hat. This original Renoir etching is a Lifetime Edition
published in 1910. It can be found referenced in catalogue raisonne, Delteil,
number 6. We are currently offering this original etching for $4,500 archivally
